Photograph - England v New Zealand, Crystal Palace Ground, 02/12/1905. England team line up

New Zealand first toured England in 1905. When they played England in December that year, the Rugby Football Union had to hire Crystal Palace in order to accommodate the huge numbers of spectators. The crowds that turned out to watch the team were so large that many spectators could not see the action on the pitch. True to form, the brilliant New Zealand side went on to achieve an overwhelming victory, beating the home nation 15-0.
