Boys playing on a bomb site off Harrow Road - photograph
- Description:
- Roger Mayne took this portrait of a young boy standing in a bombsite on Waverley Walk, Paddington. Bombed-out buildings and rubble were a common sight across post-war London. Children made playgrounds of the streets and bombsites, finding all kinds of swappable treasures amongst the rubble. Mayne had begun photographing children in bombed buildings in 1954. According to his wife Ann Jellicoe, this allowed him to develop into a 'mature photographer'.
