Drawing room, 12 Church Row, Hampstead - drawing; watercolour

Mary Hill lived and worked in Hampstead. She exhibited between 1912 and 1928 and completed this detailed and atmospheric watercolour during that period. The formal drawing room at 12 Church Row displays its lavish interior decoration to best advantage. Church Row is regarded as one of Hampstead's most beautiful streets. On the south side, the houses date from about 1720. Those on the north side are less regular in design and vary in date. Much of their original detail survived, including the subtly decorated red brick facades, bay windows and wrought-iron frontings.
