A Catholic Handbook for Irish Men & Women Going to England - booklet; handbook

This booklet, published by the Catholic Truth Society of Ireland, provides immigrant Catholics with advice on how to maintain their faith in England. It is divided into three sections headed 'Know your England', 'Understand your Faith', and 'Talking to God'. Passages alert young Irish men and women to different aspects of English life including: the perils of 'being caught up in this craze for money' and the 'constant degradation' of the institution of marriage on the radio and in films, newspapers and daily conversation. The level of Irish immigration to London peaked in the 1950s. Most migrants came in search of increased economic and social opportunities.
