London Transport Police Constable's uniform, worn in service by PC Jim Crowe - uniform

As with all railway companies, a special police force was needed to help enforce law and order. In 1933, The London Transport Police was formed. This is a police constable's uniform from 1934. The style remained much the same until the 1950s. P.C. Jim Crowe wore this uniform whilst in service. The helmet features a griffin badge and a crown. The use of the crown was specially authorised by the king; the griffin represents London Transport. The tunic collar has the officer's divisional number, and the letter 'N' tells us that Crowe served in the northern division of the police.
