Canary Wharf, showing construction of the Underground station, Jubilee Line Extension - photograph

This aerial view of Docklands shows the Canary Wharf Underground station site, which was then under construction for the Jubilee Line Extension project. Canary Wharf was the lynchpin of the Docklands project that created the Tower, the tallest building in Britain and a London financial centre second only to the City. Alongside the physical regeneration of the area, it was essential to provide training for local people so that they could benefit from the employment opportunities created by the Docklands Development. Training was given in a range of skills including construction, catering and computers.
