Busways To The Open Country - press advertisement

This advert, Busways to the Open Country, features a diagrammatic illustration in the form of points of the compass. It suggests seven southwest outer London destinations and details how to get to each by train and bus. Each is depicted by a symbolic badge, for example, an illustration of Henry VIII represents Hampton Court. Published by London General Omnibus Company and featuring the 'General' logo, the advert was designed by Aldo Cosomati. Born in Italy, he settled in London at the end of the First World War and specialised in commercial art, working for the Curwen Press until 1970.
