Underground staff receiving training - photograph

Rolling stock is constantly being remodelled and updated, and London Underground (L.U.) staff are trained to keep up with the changes. In the left of this shot is an L.U. instructor. He is wearing a peaked cap and explaining a feature of the train's mechanism. The train is an R38-stock motor car. The R38, used only on the District and Circle lines, was introduced before the Second World War to replace the old hand-operated door stock. The names of the four men are not known. The woman is Hannah Dadds, who was L.U.'s first woman driver. The picture was taken in 1978, the year Dadds qualified.
