Bus conductor Mrs Barr in uniform - photograph

This photo is one of a series taken to show off the new uniform for women bus conductors from 1968. New uniforms were one way that London Transport sought to update its image in the 1960s and 70s. The woman shown is Mrs Barr, a conductor who worked from the Cricklewood garage, posing on the platform of her bus. She is wearing an air hostess-style of cap. These were first issued in 1966, but Mrs Barr's cap was a new design. It was dark blue with yellow piping. Barr is also wearing a single-breasted jacket and trousers. The ticket machine she carries over her shoulders is a Gibson type.
