London Transport staff at the decontamination room at Chiswick Works - photograph

An important centre of wartime manufacture, London Transport (L.T.) Chiswick Works had to be protected from enemy attacks. As part of the L.T. anti-gas measures, a decontamination room was set up on the edge of the site. L.T. staff are pictured hosing down an area in front of the decontamination room, probably as part of a training exercise. Gas bombs were not used during the Second World War. The staff are wearing rubber coats and trousers with boots, tin helmets and gas masks.
