Fire fighters at Chiswick Works - photograph

Second World War firefighters operate a hose at Chiswick Works. Their steel helmets show they are from the London Passenger Transport Board, called 'London Transport' since 1933. During the war, firefighters were needed to put out fires started in the air raids. They had never had to cope with such intense fires over such a large area before.
