Exterior view of Crystal Palace tram terminus - photograph

This is the tram terminus at Crystal Palace, pictured around the time of the First World War. Not long after this was taken, trams began to decline in popularity, loosing out to motor buses. The tram in the picture is an M-class which first came into use in 1910. In the foreground is the South Metropolitan Electric Tramways tram shelter. The company ran trams on behalf of Croydon Corporation. By 1913 it was effectively part of the Underground Group.
