Wedding Couple - Blau - photograph

Max Blau and Rosie Avrutin were married at Manette Street Synagogue in Soho, by Rabbi Ferber. Max (1893-1959) came to England from Galicia at the age of 13. He joined the King's Royal Rifles in 1915 and served as interpreter at German POW camps. Rosie Blau (n��e Avrutin, 1891-1972), came to England from Moghilev, Russia, alone at the age of 18. She worked as dressmaker in Soho, which enabled her to bring over her parents, three brothers and two sisters. The Blau's lived in Ganton Street and Dufours Place, Soho, London. They had three daughters, and later set up a tailoring workshop making trousers, in their home in Dufours Place.
