Description:
During the Second World War, the Boosey & Hawkes factory in Edgware was seconded for the production of components for munitions and aircraft. Special techniques and machinery for the forming of instrument parts, including the hydraulic expansion of tubing into complicated shapes pioneered at Edgware during the 1930s and 40s, were pressed into service for military production. This photo shows equipment originally employed to produce trombone slides being used to make tubing for hydraulic bellows.
