City Farms

There are around 17 city farms in London, the oldest of which was established in 1972. The first farms were set up as centres for community education and as havens for wildlife in the City. By 2006, only three of the farms were fully local authority-owned and managed. The rest were run by community-led independent charitable trusts, managed by a committee.

Key city farms include Vauxhall City Farm Riding Stables, Lambeth; Spitalfields City Farm, Tower Hamlets; Stepping Stones City Farm, Stepney, Tower Hamlets; Freightliners City Farm, Islington; Hackney City Farm; Kentish Town City Farm Limited, Camden; Deen City Farm, Merton; Newham City Farm; Thameside Park City Farm, Barking and Dagneham.
