de Havilland Aircraft Company.was founded by Sir Geoffrey de Havilland in 1920 at the Stag Lane Aerodrome in Kingsbury. de Havilland had previously worked for the Aircraft Manufacturing Company (AirCo.) as a designer. The de Havilland Gypsy and Tiger Moth planes set many flying records and their famous Mosquito plane was made mostly from wood, due to the shortage of wood during the Second World War. Stag Lane Aerodrome was a popular flying club and Amy Johnson, who became the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia, learnt to fly there.
