Photograph of Eton Manor Football Team 1952-1953

Description:
This photograph shows the Eton Manor Boys' Club football team for the 1952-1953 season. Eton Manor Boys' Club was founded in 1909 by a group of Old Etonians for the boys living in the impoverished area of Hackney Wick. It was renowned for the quality and variety of the facilities it offered in the areas of sport, art, amateur dramatics, music, and other activities. At this time, the club's football team was coached by Alf Ramsey (shown here in the back row, third from left), a player at that time for Tottenham Hotspur. Ramsey went on to coach Ipswich Town and Birmingham City, and he coached England when they won the World Cup in 1966.
